Connors 'fighting for change' CUMBERLAND - Sen. Daniel P. Connors, Democratic incumbent for the Senate District 19 seat, said, "I've run a positive campaign, highlighting my record of fighting for change. In the future, I'll continue fighting for change for the people of Lincoln and Cumberland." Connors pointed to three examples of his fight for change during the past legislative term: "Open Government. I sponsored a bill opening R.I.'s leases to public scrutiny by requiring placement on the Internet. This bill is now the law. "Small Business. Small Business is the foundation of our economy. I sponsored a bill giving small business a seat on the fire code board. This bill is now the law." "Election Reform. This past term, I sponsored a bill guaranteeing presidency to the candidate who receives most votes in all 50 states. Although this bill was vetoed by the Republican governor, it is another example of my record of fighting for change." Connors said, "When I first sought public office, I did so with great idealism, enthusiasm and a willingness to serve. I still feel that way today. I respectfully ask for your consideration on Tuesday, Nov. 4." This article is excerpted from the Valley Breeze’s “What the Senate Candidates Are Saying This Week,” October 30, 2008
