A life-long resident of Cumberland, I served on the Cumberland Zoning Board before being elected to the Rhode Island State Senate in 1996 at the age of 20. It has been my distinct honor to represent the residents of Cumberland and Lincoln’s District 19 at the State House.
I am a graduate of Cumberland High School, Providence College, and Roger Williams Law School. I am the Chair-elect of the New England Board of Higher Education.
In 2008, during the last legislative session, I was appointed to Chair
the Senate Labor Committee. As Labor Chair I have provided leadership on issues related to employment laws, workers compensation, and immigration. In addition, I Chair the Senate Rules Committee where I have led the effort to ban lobbyists from the Senate floor during debate. Currently I also serve on the Senate Judiciary and Government Oversight Committees.
Over my last 12 years in the Senate, I have been deeply involved in fiscal responsibility, education and building strong communities. With your support I’ll be able to return to the Senate to continue to fight for the people of Cumberland and Lincoln.
